If you’re a Cairns local you would be familiar with the iconic Sheridan Street. It runs straight through the heart of town. If you have visited Cairns you may be familiar with the bustling Rusty’s markets which are facilitated on Sheridan street at the end of every week, where you can find everything from fresh coconuts to gourmet cheese.

A little farther down the road, resides Collins Constructions brand new headquarters. Collins Constructions acquired this sought after location in 2021. The promising block of concrete and asphalt housed a quaint old timber Queenslander. Director Pelham Collins had a vision beyond what the eye could see. In a mere six-months that quaint old Queenslander had been transformed into a fully-fledged office building, not in any way resembling the old structure.

With several offices and a large co-working space as well as a kitchen, the upstairs level is always a buzz of keyboards tapping, coffee beans grinding, and phones ringing. The downstairs of the building, which was the second stage of the renovation, houses a large-scale boardroom with automatic blackout blinds hidden in the ceiling to be deployed for the ideal plan viewing experience on the 85 inch TV. The boardroom table was custom made by a local cabinet maker and the stylish leather chairs were produced in Sydney, Australia.

You can’t miss the building from the street, painted in Collins Constructions classic blue and white stripe. Pelham Collins asked his design team to make it ‘look like the car wraps’ after always receiving second glances and comments on the striking design. If you happen to miss the building though, the 18-foot LED sign in front of it will be sure to catch your attention.

Pelham wasn’t ready to stop there though, further acquiring the block of land next to the new headquarters in late 2021 before joining the two blocks together for an extended concrete yard. Stay tuned for further exciting developments on the now 2000 sqm property including the proposed Collins Design Centre!
